Sabr wa Shukr

Sabr (patience) and Shukr (gratitude) are like two wings of faith, which allow us to navigate our lives with mindfulness and devotion to Allah (SWT). The practice of giving zakat is an expression of both sabr and shukr; it is an act of trust and recognition that our wealth is an amana, graciously given by God.

The Zakat Fund of NYC would like to thank you for entrusting us with the collection and distribution of your zakat and sadaqa. Together, our community raised nearly $1.9 million and counting this Ramadan! Your generosity is helping local families across the New York metropolitan area to afford essentials such as food, rent, clothing, transportation and childcare.

Your contributions will be distributed as unrestricted, direct cash grants to individuals and families in need; currently, our grants range from $600 to $3,000 and average about $1,715. For many families this means paying off overdue rent or utility bills, recovering from unexpected hardship, or providing much needed relief as they work toward financial stability. May these grants continue to sustain and uplift them.

As we grow, the Zakat Fund is currently developing new processes and programs to facilitate local zakat and sadaqa distribution efficiently, effectively, and with greater impact, including through community partnerships and emergency funding.  May Allah (SWT) accept our zakat and continue to place barakah in our efforts. Ameen.
