Zakat, or almsgiving, is a central pillar of Islam centered on redistributing wealth in the community to individuals and families in need.

The mission of the Zakat Fund of NYC (ZFNYC) is to facilitate the redistribution of wealth in the NYC Metro area by locally collecting Zakat funds while identifying and supporting those individuals and families who are in need.

For Individuals or Organizations Interested in Receiving Zakat Funds

The ZFNYC supports the local community through two methods:

• Identifying individuals and families, irrespective of faith, that are eligible to receive Zakat. Please see the Ramadan Relief Fund if you are in need.

• Supporting existing organizations in NYC that are meeting the needs of the community. Please see Organizational Funding if you seek support.

For Individuals Interested in Contributing Zakat Funds

The concept of Zakat encompasses financial, economic, social, moral and religious requirements.

• Distributing Zakat in your local community increases the interaction across all segments of society.

• Zakat redistributes wealth in local communities.

• Zakat is an obligation incumbent on members of the community to help those in need.
